I'm still getting the .pck error, so i guess the fix didn't work:
"Error: Couldn't load project data at path ".". Is the .pck file missing?

If you've renamed the executable, the associated .pck file should also be renamed to match the executable's name (without the extension)."

Also, like another comment pointed out, the mushroom effect never seems to end even after multiple minutes.

Edit: i kept trying a couple of times and it seems to be about a 50/50 chance to work

Dang! I'm sorry about that. I'll keep trying on the .pck error and will revisit the mushroom.

So uh, not sure what's happened, but scavenging did nothing after opening the book (which I couldn't figure out how to exit and ended up using escape to do so which might have been the issue) and when I tried to close and restart the game I keep receiving the same error and the game is just a black screen. Error says "

Error: Couldn't load project data at path ".". Is the .pck file missing?

If you've renamed the executable, the associated .pck file should also be renamed to match the executable's name (without the extension)"

This might be exclusively from opening the stats, using escape, then closing and reopening the game. Unfortunately this does mean I cant access the game at all anymore, but this may end up being a very very specific bug.

Hey! Welcome back! Sorry the game is still giving you some trouble. Thank you for calling this to my attention. I believe I've resolved the scavenger issue, as well as the .pck file (fingers crossed, this thing has been a pain). If you return to play, please let me know if it's still giving you trouble. Appreciate you!

Edit: Forgot to mention that you can close the menus by clicking off of them. I'll work on adding some close buttons for the menus so it's more intuitive.

My crank is bugged, I can still click it while doing action

I'd say, Highlight the Cancel button if something is active while hovering Crank and make clicking Crank click it

Also I think disallow upgrading unleast you have enough charge to keep it going

Also please fix saving, it should keep the items you'd have after you've blacked out

Hey! Thanks for playing the game, offering feedback, and calling that bug to my attention. The game is getting a big update today which will include a fix for the crank as well as a new feature. I'll go back to the drawing board on the blackout punishment. Thanks again for playing and sharing!

Edit: New update is launched and this issue should be resolved. Thanks again!

the mushroom effect seems to last forever once you use it, and I can't prestige. I can "accept" but it doesn't do anything and just sits there with the other upgrades

(1 edit)

Oh no! Thank you so much for alerting me of the issue with the prestige. I'll look into that right away. Thanks for giving the game a shot and I hope you'll try it again when that bug is resolved. Sorry about the inconvenience.

Edit: The prestige issue is resolved and I've reduced the time on the mushroom a little bit. Let me know if you have any other  issues.

Upgrades take multiple minutes to do at this point. My bar takes over 5 minutes to deplete. It seems like there is more to the game, but I have no idea what to do. I've just been playing for an hour of real time.

I'm gonna give up at this point. I'm tired. I saw something called crank seance once when I started about an hour ago, but never saw it again after failing to complete it. Maybe that has something to do with it but I have no idea tbh.

I'm not sure if I just got terrible luck or if something else was going on, but past a certain point the game felt really slow. My progress was erased from clicking out of the window, and I'm not really feeling up to doing that all again.

Edit: I checked the drop rates, and it really seems it was awful luck. I got at least 15 fledglings total, but only 1 spectral residue at the very beginning and not a single mushroom.

Hey there! Thank you for trying the game out and sharing your experience. This is really valuable player insight for me. You aren't the first person to have a less-than-ideal experience with the RNG, and I have some features in the works that should improve player agency and mid-late game pace of play. I hope you'll return to try the game out in the near future with the planned improvements. Thanks again for taking the time to play and share. Appreciate you!

(+1)

Sure, it is a cool concept for the game so I'd be happy to come back to check it out again later. Sorry if it sounded like I was just complaining. I did enjoy the game a lot up until it got very slow because of bad luck.

(+1)

You did not sound like you were complaining. Most games don't get any feedback or interaction. I'm very grateful that you took some time to share your experience. Glad you were able to find enjoyment and think it's a cool concept. Hope to see your feedback again in the future. :)

I know making a game is a project often takes hundreds of hours or more, so if taking 5 minutes to leave a comment helps, I'm glad to do it.

First prestige observations now!

I notice that upgrading with a mushroom sets the time to 5 but doesn’t check if it would be faster without the mushroom; if you use one on the first crank upgrade, for example, it goes from 2 seconds to 5. Not a super big deal, but easy to fix, obviously.

Speaking of RNG, I’m not sure if I just got unlucky pre-prestige and insane luck 1st prestige, but after having to spend nearly hour to get to prestige 1 prestige 2 took under five minutes; I got 3 shards and a second mushroom very quickly. It feels a bit like the pace difference between prestige layers is a bit over-tuned, though again I don’t know if that was just odd luck in my case.

(+1)

Yeah, can confirm, the third pass actually took longer than the second, mostly waiting for the second mushroom to drop. Though I suppose I could have waited to use the first until I had the shards, and just built up battery to claim the starting fledglings

Overall quite a lovely experience for a short little incremental!

Hey there! You are the first person to comment that they've finished the game! I can't express how cool it is for me that you endured and earned the ending. Thank you so much for playing the game all the way through and leaving detailed feedback. This type of player insight is super valuable and helpful. I am delighted to hear you had a lovely experience. :)

I'm working on a UI update that should be available tomorrow, and have included your suggestion to prevent the cancel button from repositioning menus. It will also expose the cost of upgrades and remove the tooltips.  I've got a mid/late game feature I'm really excited about that should help soften the blow of the RNG and give players a little more agency, but that will probably need a couple of days.

Great catch on the mushroom bug, thank you for calling that to my attention.

I hope to see your feedback again in the future. Thanks again!

Feedback after just having finished the first phase:

I gotta say the RNG feels a bit harsh. You quickly get to a point where it’s not worth upgrading without a mushroom (3+ minutes per upgrade) and I only found two of them the whole phase… which makes the 6 minute wait to prestige feel like a bit of a slap in the face.

Would also be nice if canceling tasks refunded the resources; I lost a few ectoplasms due to forgetting that I need to hover -above- the button I want to click while waiting for scavenging to finish

(+1)

I would recommend that, instead of having the “cancel task” button spawn on top of the action list and push everything else down, have it replace the action currently being executed, so that it doesn’t make the buttons in the list jump around.

Refreshed the page to log in and save the game, and lost all of my progress. :(

Oh no! I'm so sorry you lost your progress. At the moment progress is only saved between acts/prestige's. Thank you for trying the game, I hope it's treating you well otherwise. There are some quality of life updates going live tonight if you decide to try again in the future!

(1 edit) (+1)

The ghost crank take way more time than the 120 show

Edit : I got another one (same game after losing) and this time it show 360 oh and if it helps you I lost once before trying the first time (did not look at the prestige time XD )

Oh no! Sorry about that. I just pushed up a fresh build with a fix for this issue. Thanks for reporting!

(+1)

So the game is currently impossible without the broken bar glitch. Improve battery capacity starts at 20, not 2, so you can never get it up without blacking out.

Hey! I'm so sorry you found the game in this state. I just pushed an update to fix both of these issues. I hope you have a better experience on the next try. Sorry again.

(+1)

Idk if it's a bug or not, but after the first time my battery (?) bar runs out, it seems to not go down after that. Seems like it trivializes the game quite a bit

Hey! Sorry you're encountering a bug. I'm having trouble reproducing the issue as you've described it.

When the battery bar(purple progress bar) reaches 0 you should see:
 - Knock out animation plays
- Inventory items reset to 0
- Battery bar resets to 100%
- Battery bar continues ticking down

If I'm understanding correctly, the last bullet point isn't occurring for you? Let me know if I'm misunderstanding. Thanks for playing and reporting the bug!

(+1)

Happened to me too, battery bar is not ticking down. I scavenged two times in a row and on the second time it ran out (wanted to see what would happen).

(1 edit)

Thank you for confirming the issue. Im looking into it now and will hopefully have a solve soon. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Edit: This issue is fixed with most recent update

That was what happened, but now i can't seem to replicate it. Might have just been an issue on my end

Lovely little game!

Quick question: is prestiging meant to not do anything, yet? Every time I attempt it, the timer fills up and then nothing happens, but the "Accept (Prestige)" option flips back to yellow.

(2 edits)

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you're enjoying it.

Darn, I thought I fixed that! Unfortunately the prestige isn't work as intended in browser. It's working as intended in my development environment. I'll hopefully have a fix up this evening or tomorrow morning.

Thanks again for playing and reporting this bug!

Edit: Prestige is fixed!

(+1)

Seems pretty interesting, but I didn't think to check the time for my 2nd fledgeling, assuming it'd be 10 seconds, but it was higher so I was forced to fully restart, which is a killer for me

Maybe just removing your scavenged materials, so at least you retain your upgrades? Or maybe adding an extra icon if its cost would exceed your total capacity (or if you're feeling nice, your current amount)

Otherwise the sound design was nice, and the basic premise was pretty neat!

(1 edit)

Hey there! Thank you so much for playing my game, and even more for taking the time to share your experience and thoughts in a constructive and kind manner. This type of feedback is invaluable to me.

I'm sorry you discovered the time cost increment on the upgrades in such a punishing manner. Your ideas for softening this blow are great, and I think some indicator that cost has changed or that something may cost more than you can afford is wise. Determining how much to reveal to the player vs let them discover is a delicate balance and there's room to improve here.

Thanks for the kind words on the game premise and sound design. You're appreciated, and this feedback will be reflected in future updates. :)

Edit: Your idea of replacing the forced restart on failure with material penalty is implemented
